Duration 20 minutes
“Devouring Space” is a 20 minute dance piece for mature dancers 65+ and was performed at VierMalTanz in Solothurn, Switzerland. The piece was collaboratively created with the dancers, by researching how we devour space as mature dancers, based on dancer Gus Solomon’s statement: “play your body like an instrument, as hard as it can be played, given the instrument”. How do we as older dancers devour space on stage without big leaps and pirouettes, without the flexibility, speed and virtuosity; what other qualities do we have and can be applied and expressed artistically?
Using improvisation for research and unleashing the dancers creative and physical potential, not depending on the amount of dancers but on each dancers individually expressed story, we brought a touching performance on stage, with the support of compositional and choreographic work.
